Connect Your Windows 8 Computer to WVU's Wi-Fi

Overview:

WVU students, faculty, and staff should connect to the WVU.Encrypted network.

Note: WVU students and employees trying to connect to WVU.Guest will receive an error message since it is intended for campus guests. Students and employees should connect to WVU.Encrypted for more secure access.

How do I connect my Windows 8 computer to the WVU.Encrypted network?

To configure your Windows 8 computer to connect to WVU.Encrypted, follow the steps below.

  1. Access the control panel by typing "control panel" on the home screen.

  2. Click on Network and Internet.

  3. Click Network and Sharing Center.

  4. Click Set up a new connection or network.

  5. Choose Manually connect to a wireless network.

  6. Enter the following information:

    • Network name: WVU.Encrypted

    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise

    • Encryption type: AES

  7. Click Next.

  8. Click Change connection settings.

  9. Click to the Security tab. Make sure the authentication method is Protected EAP (PEAP) and then click the Settings button.

  10. Check the box to Validate Server Certificate. Scroll down the list of trusted root certificates and select DigiCert Global Root CA. If you don't have that root certificate, you can download it here.

  11. Make sure the authentication method is EAP-MSCHAP v2 and click Configure.

  12. Make sure the option to automatically connect is NOT checked.

  13. Click OK on previous screens to return to the "WVU.Encrypted Network Properties" window.

  14. Click on Advanced settings.

  15. Make sure that Specify authentication mode is checked.

  16. Select User authentication from the drop-down menu.

  17. Click OK when complete.

  18. Return to the home screen and move your cursor to the upper right-hand corner of the desktop.

  19. Choose settings from the taskbar.

  20. Click Available to show detected wireless networks.

  21. Select WVU.Encrypted.

  22. Click in the check box if you prefer to connect to WVU.Encrypted automatically.

  23. Then click Connect.

  24. Use your Login credentials to access the wireless network.

  25. You should now be connected!
