Not Receiving Login Account Expiration Notifications

Overview:

Login passwords are set to expire every 90 or 180 days.* You will receive an email reminder two weeks before your Login password expires, and you will continue to receive reminder emails until you change your Login password.

*Faculty, staff, and students whose positions have a HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance requirement will be required to change their passwords every 90 days. If you do not have a HIPAA compliance requirement, you may complete a security quiz to extend your password to last 180 days.

Problem:

You are not receiving notifications before your Login password expires.

Solution:

If you are not receiving the email reminders, try the following solutions:

  1. Check your email's junk mail folder.
  2. Search your WVU email account for messages from "System Administrator" or search for "Your Login password is about to expire."
  3. If you cannot find the email, contact the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444.

Note: If you let your Login password expire, your account will become locked. If your account is locked, go to login.wvu.edu, click Reset Account, and complete the required information. For more detailed instructions on resetting your account, visit the Login tutorials page.
