How to Submit Your Own Mountaineer Card ID Photo

Overview:

Admitted students who take classes on the WVU Morgantown campus can electronically submit a personal ID photo instead of getting one taken at an ITS Service Center. WVU online students and off-campus employees who wish to obtain an official WVU Mountaineer Card can request to have their card printed and mailed.

Note: Students who attend classes on campus are required to visit an ITS Service Center to pick up their card in person.

Photo requirements:

Submitted photos will only be approved if they adhere to all of these guidelines:

  • Recent photo that reflects your current appearance
  • Taken in front of a solid, neutral-color background (light blue, light gray, white or beige)
  • No people, animals or objects in the background
  • Face forward, head straight, eyes open and natural expression
  • No hats or sunglasses (religious garments permitted)
  • No camera filters, photo editing or photo cropping
  • Can’t exceed the maximum resolution of 1024×1024 pixels and must be a .JPG or .PNG file.

How to submit your ID photo:

Step 1:

  1. Sign into mymountaineercard.wvu.edu using your WVU Login credentials and confirm your identity with Duo.

  2. Click Submit ID Photo from the menu.

  3. Click Upload Photo, select your photo and click Open.

  4. When your photo opens in the cropping window, click Submit. You can submit up to three photos.

Step 2:

Your photo submission can’t be processed electronically without valid proof of identity. Upload a photo of valid government-issued identification, such as a driver’s license, passport or military ID. This will be automatically deleted once your ID card is approved. Do not upload a copy of your Social Security card or birth certificate.

Note: The name on your ID must match WVU records.

  1. Click Upload ID and Choose File.

  2. Select a photo of your valid, unexpired form of identification and click Open.

  3. Review your photo selection in the preview window and click Submit.

  4. Once both photos have been uploaded, click Submit next to your first photo.

Next steps:

Your submission will be reviewed within three business days. An approval or denial will be sent via MIX (Gmail) or text message, depending on your notification preferences. If a photo submission is rejected, a reason will be included and you will be encouraged to submit a new photo. If approved, your Mountaineer ID card will be printed.

If you’re an incoming, on-campus student, you will pick up your card at New Student Orientation (NSO). If you’re a current, on-campus student or you didn’t attend orientation, you can pick up your card at the Mountainlair Service Center. You must be an enrolled student or employee to be eligible to receive a WVU ID. If you’re a current, on-campus student or employee, you must pick up your card at the Mountainlair Service Center.

If you’re an online student, you can request to have your card printed and mailed. When you receive your card, you will need to activate it.

  1. Go to mymountaineercard.wvu.edu and sign in using your WVU Login credentials.

  3. Click Yes to report your card as found. This will activate your card.
