Connect iPhone, iPad & iPod Devices to Office 365 Email & Calendar


Office 365 allows you to sync Apple devices with WVU employee email, calendar, contacts and reminders. The directions on this page show how to configure these devices.

These directions are written for Apple iOS 10.x devices. If you have a device running an older version, please visit Connect Apple Devices Running Older Versions of iOS to Office 365.

Mobile Device Mailbox Policy:

Exchange-based email systems like Office 365 use a Mobile Device Mailbox Policy. This policy applies to all devices that connect using ActiveSync. Currently, WVU has not modified the policy from the default configuration. You can read about the mailbox policy on the Microsoft Mobile Device Mailbox Policies page. By accessing your WVU email account using ActiveSync, you are agreeing to the Mobile Device Mailbox Policy.

Alternatively, you can connect to your email using IMAP without accepting this mobile policy, but you will not be able to see your calendar using this method.


  1. Select Settings.
  2. Select Mail.
  3. Select Accounts.
  4. Select Add Account.
  5. Select Exchange.
    Note: If prompted for a server address, enter
    1. Enter your Login username followed by in the Email space.
    2. Enter your Login password in the Password space.
    3. Provide a name, such as "WVU," in the Description space.
    4. Select Next.
  6. Confirm the options you wish to synchronize are selected and then select Save.
  7. With your WVU account showing, press your device's Home button to access the Mail and Calendar apps.

Note: Apple devices may default to synchronizing three days of mail. If you wish to change this, go to Settings, then select Mail and your WVU account. Select Mail Days to Sync and choose the desired period.


If you find that your device will not complete the configuration, please try the following:

  1. Completely power down your device, restart it and try the directions again.

  2. Use your device's Safari browser to attempt to connect to Outlook Web App at

    If you are unable to see the Outlook Web App site prompting for your credentials, your device may not have a functional data connection. If that is the case, attempt to connect again from a location with a good data connection or contact your cellular carrier for assistance with your data connection.

    If you are able to see the Outlook Web App site asking you for your Login credentials, provide them and attempt to log in. If you are unable to log in, the problem may be with your account itself. In that case, please contact the IT Service Desk for assistance with your account.

  3. Temporarily disable cellular data on your device and connect to Wi-Fi. If you are on campus, please use the WVU.Encrypted network and go through the set up directions again. We have seen cases where a cellular data connection is not be able to make the initial connection to the Office 365 system. Using Wi-Fi only may help complete the process. Be sure to turn your cellular data back on!
