How to Back Up Data to the J Drive (Network Folder)

Overview:

Don’t lose your files. Back them up! The best way to avoid losing your files is to back them up to your network folder, which is located under My Computer. This folder is also called a (J:) drive. Files are NOT automatically updated.

How do I back up data to the J drive?

  1. Open the Start Menu, and then select Computer.

  2. Double-click Local Disk (C:), and then double-click Users.

  3. Double-click your user account (your Login username).

  4. Press and hold the Ctrl key, and then select the following folders: Contacts, Desktop, Downloads, Favorites, Links and My Documents. Once you have selected them all, release the Ctrl button.

  5. Right-click on the selected folders, and select Copy.

  6. On the left side of the window select My Computer or This PC, then select your (J:) drive, which displays your Login username.

  7. Right-click New, then select Folder. Enter backup 2017 as the folder name.

  8. Double-click the backup 2017 folder. Inside the folder, right-click, and then select Paste.
