Instructor's Email is Getting Flagged as Spam

Overview:

An instructor's email to a student's MIX account may sometimes be flagged as Spam, causing the student to miss an important communication. It is a good practice to add a filter to your MIX Gmail account to prevent an instructor's email from ever being flagged as Spam.

Problem:

An instructor's email to a student's MIX Gmail account may sometimes be flagged as Spam, causing the student to miss an important communication. Student Gmail accounts can each react differently to the same type of email, based on the student's previous behavior and based upon the characteristics of the instructor's email (e.g., contains an Office attachment or has numerous hyperlinks).

Solution:

  1. Click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of your Gmail account.

  2. From the menu, select Settings.

  3. On the Settings page, select the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab and click the Create a new filter link.

  5. In the Filter From field at the top, type in your instructor's email address (you'll want what's called the Send-As form of this address).

  6. At the bottom-right corner of the dialog, click on the Create filter with this search link.

  7. Select the checkbox for Never send it to Spam.

  8. Click Create filter.

  9. Back on the Settings page, you should see a Your filter has been created confirmation displayed.
