How to Set up a New Phone with Duo

Overview:

Follow the steps below to remove an old phone from your account and set up a new phone with two-factor authentication. If you have already set up Duo Restore on your phone, you can backup and restore your iPhone or backup and restore your Android.

How to set up a new phone:

  1. Make sure you have a way to authenticate before setting up your new phone.

    • Print 10 single-use codes. See How to Generate Bypass Codes for Duo Authentication for instructions.

    • Purchase a Duo display token from any WVU Barnes & Noble store.

    • Set up a backup device (like a tablet) to authenticate with Duo. If you keep your old phone, you can use it as a backup device to authenticate and set up your new phone. Use Wi-Fi and the Duo app to authenticate at login.wvu.edu. You can then print out the 10 codes and follow the steps to add your new device. If you surrender your old phone, you won’t be able to log in without those printed codes.

  2. Remove the old phone from your account.

  3. Set up your new phone with Duo authentication.
