How do I access the Guest wireless network?

If you are not being sponsored by a department (for example, a visiting relative or friend of a student), you can self-register to gain access to the WVU.Guest network for up to 5 days. If you are being sponsored by a department, click here. To self-register,

  1. From your device's list of available networks, select WVU.Guest. If you are unable to find the network on your device, you may also register at the WVU Wireless Access page.

  2. Click the Click here to register link.

  3. Complete the fields. Required fields are noted by an asterisk (*).

    • First and Last name*: Your first and last name will only be visible to the Service Desk.

    • Email address*: This will become your username. Also, your default password will be sent to this email address. You cannot use a WVU email address (@mail or @mix).

    • Mobile phone number: Enter your phone number if you would like to receive your default password via text.

    • Company: Optional field to complete if you are registering as part of a company.

    • SMS provider*: Select your device's provider. If your provider is not listed, select "Global Default."

  4. Click Register.

  5. If you successfully self-registered, you will be notified that your account has been created. We recommend jotting down this account information or taking a screenshot with your device before proceeding. From this screen, click Sign On to access the Guest wireless network using the password that was emailed to you. The Text Me option is currently unavailable. If you are unable to access your email to view your default password, contact the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444. Be prepared to provide your account information.

  6. Connect your device to the WVU.Guest wireless network by following the steps below.

I'm registered. How do I connect?

If this is your first time logging into the WVU.Guest wireless network using the account created by or for you,

  1. Enter your username (your email address) and default password (emailed or to you).

  2. Check Change Password.

  3. Click Sign On.

  4. Read the Acceptable Use Policy and click Accept.

  5. Enter your default password and the password you would like to have. Passwords must have at least 8 characters and must contain at least one uppercase letter and one number.

  6. Click Submit.

As long as you don't take your device out of range of the wireless network or close your device, you should not have to reconnect for 24 hours. If you do need to reconnect,

  1. From your device's list of available networks, select WVU.Guest.

  2. Enter your username (your email address) and password.

  3. Click Sign On.

Note: This service is not intended for WVU faculty, staff, and students. These populations should connect to the WVU.Encrypted network.

What if I'm being sponsored by a department?
