CDs, DVDs and removable drives are popular due to their portability and capacity, but risks exist for them to fall into the wrong hands. As such, proper security measures should be taken to prevent the contents from being accessed by unauthorized users.

At a minimum, encryption is recommended for files containing sensitive or Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
