Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Requests

Tags student

The Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) platform, formerly named Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD), is used to access full virtual desktops and applications that have access to resources on the WVU network. These virtual desktops comply with WVU standards and policies and can be accessed remotely from any internet connected device. Use this service to submit a request for:

  • Virtual apps: Request access to virtual apps or add an app to a virtual desktop.

  • Virtual desktop: Request access or changes to an existing virtual desktop, or request a new virtual desktop instance.

  • Virtual labs inquiry: Virtual labs allow students and instructors to access software that is usually available in an open computer lab. Access to most virtual computer labs is provided to students who are enrolled in certain courses and is granted approximately 3 hours after the request is approved. Information about the labs and their available software will be provided by the instructor. Request access to a virtual lab:

    • ITS Stats (SPSS, JMP, and MATLAB)

WVU faculty or staff may submit a request for virtual desktops and apps. Requests to add, modify or remove an AVD instance require department head approval before being fulfilled.

Students and instructors may submit inquiries about virtual labs.

Students are not charged for virtual lab access. Costs for new AVD instances will vary by case. After evaluating your request, Information Technology Services (ITS) will contact you with cost estimates and collect funding information.
