Amazon Web Services Account Request

Introduction:

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a cloud computing platform that provides servers, storage, databases, and a broad set of application services over the Internet. Use this service to request a new AWS account or close an existing AWS account.

  • Request an AWS account: Before you request a new AWS account, review the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Account Information and the service information below carefully.

    • An IT Purchase Request is required for software, hardware, and consulting services purchase requests, including AWS accounts. Submit an IT Purchase Request for your AWS Account.

    • Use this service to submit AWS account requests 1-2 weeks in advance and include technical and billing contact information.

    • After ITS confirms an IT Purchase Request has been submitted for your project, Information Security will review your request and contact you about responsibilities and best practices.

  • Close an AWS account: Find your AWS Account ID before submitting your request. Sign into your AWS account and click your name in the top-right navigation pane. Your AWS ID is the 12 digit number under the Account Settings section.

WVU obtains AWS services through an agreement with Internet2 (NET+) and DLT Solutions. AWS accounts under this agreement are created under a WVU Master Account and receive preferential pricing, including a data egress fee waiver in most cases and an overall percentage discount from list pricing (currently at 5%). Responsibility of ITS is limited to maintenance of the NET+ agreement and configuring accounts for use with WVU Login.

AWS is not a service provided by WVU – it is a contracted for service that individual WVU units can purchase and use. Use of AWS and associated fees are the sole responsibility of each purchasing unit. Billing questions or disputes are the responsibility of the account holder and should be directed to DLT Solutions.

If you already have an AWS account for University work, it can be brought under the University agreement. Submit a request for a new AWS account and include your existing account information. We’ll work with DLT Solutions to link it to our agreement. All charges from that point forward will be on your DLT account. All charges prior to that will remain on your previous method of payment.

Eligibility:

Any WVU Morgantown campus, Potomac State College, WVU Tech or WVU Research Corporation employee may use this service. An IT Purchase Request must be submitted for new AWS account requests.

Cost:

The account owner is responsible for all activity occurring within the account and all associated fees. Estimates can be built using the Amazon Web Services Calculator. DLT Solutions is available to assess your requirements and help estimate total cost. As DLT bills typically run a couple of months behind, the account owner can expect to see charges even after the account is closed. Billing questions or disputes are the responsibility of the account holder and should be directed to DLT Solutions.
