Connect Your Windows 7 Computer to WVU's Wi-Fi


WVU students, faculty, and staff should connect to the WVU.Encrypted network.

Note: WVU students and employees trying to connect to WVU.Guest will receive an error message since it is intended for campus guests. Students and employees should connect to WVU.Encrypted for more secure access.

How do I connect my Windows 7 computer to the WVU.Encrypted network?

To configure your Windows 7 computer to connect to WVU.Encrypted, follow the steps below.

  1. Open your Start Menu and click Control Panel.
  2. Click Network and Internet.
  3. Click Network and Sharing Center.
  4. In the left-hand column, click Manage wireless networks.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Select Manually create a network profile.
  7. Enter the following information:
    • Network name: WVU.Encrypted
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Change Connection Settings.
  10. Select the Security tab at the top of the window. Make sure the authentication method is Protected EAP (PEAP) and then click the Settings button.
  11. Check the box to Validate Server Certificate. Scroll down the list of trusted root certificates and select DigiCert Global Root CA. If you don't have that root certificate, you can download it here.
  12. Make sure the option to automatically connect is NOT checked and click OK. You'll return to the "WVU.Encrypted Network Properties" window.
  13. Click Advanced settings.
  14. Make sure that Specify authentication mode is checked and select User authentication from the drop-down menu.
  15. Click OK when complete.
  16. Log into the wireless network using your Login username and password.
