Problems Signing in to SharePoint Online

Some users, such as HSC users, may not realize that their account is considered an organizational account. Users trying to access a SharePoint Online site may mistakenly select Microsoft account instead of Organizational account and receive the message: "That Microsoft account doesn't exist."

When you receive an invitation link to a WVU Sharepoint Online site, you will see a screen that asks you to sign in using a Microsoft account or Organizational account.

Select Organizational account to sign in. If you mistakenly select Microsoft account, you will get a different sign-in screen than the familiar Office 365. If you try to sign in from this screen, you will receive a message saying "That Microsoft account doesn't exist. Enter a different account or get a new one."

Site owners who are adding HSC users or users not accustomed to using Office 365 to People and Groups in SharePoint should take advantage of the optional personal message space in the Invitation dialog. As part of the message, they should include a note in their message like the following:

When you click on the SharePoint link in this message, choose Organizational account at the welcome screen.
