Google Drive Security Update

A Google security update for Google Drive files will make sharing links more secure. If you have previously given others access to a file, folder or shared drive via URL, that URL may change, and people may need to request access to view it. The update will add a resource key to the file's URL, and will appear as resourcekey=. The resource key is an additional security measure and helps protect your file from unintended access.

Public Google drive links, such as those posted on websites, will need to be updated to include the resource key. Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms, are not impacted by the security update.

How to view files impacted by the update:

  1. Go to
  2. At the top, find the blue security update banner and click See files.
  3. If you have multiple Drives with impacted files, click on one of your Drives, like My Drive, to see all impacted files in that Drive.

When you reshare your affected files or grant access again, the new security protection will be automatically applied.

Note: You can only view your impacted files for 30 days from when you receive the security update notification email from Drive. After 30 days, you can use advanced search to find your impacted files.
