GlobalProtect Issues with macOS Big Sur

Overview:

Users should avoid installing the newest Mac operating system, macOS Big Sur, when it is released. Anyone who upgrades to macOS Big Sur while having GlobalProtect (remote VPN) installed will lose their networking connection, and possibly other services like Wi-Fi, AirDrop and Bluetooth. The only way to fix these services is to uninstall GlobalProtect. 

Note: After uninstalling GlobalProtect following the instructions below, you must contact the ITS Service Desk or call 304-293-4444 to request a different version of GlobalProtect from our Networking teamReinstalling GlobalProtect from remote.wvu.edu will install the same version and cause the same problems.

Uninstall Global Protect:

Follow these instructions to uninstall GlobalProtect if you have no network connection:

  1. Open Terminal.
  2. Type the following and press return: 

    sudo /Applications/GlobalProtect.app/Contents/Resources/uninstall_gp.sh 

    Note:
    This text must be entered exactly as it appears above; note the space before the first forward slash. 
  3. Enter your password.
  4. After uninstalling, contact the ITS Service Desk or call 304-293-4444 to request a different version of GlobalProtect from our Networking team.
